The Prairie Bounty of Illinois publication is in the process of being updated for 2010, and hard copies will be available around June 1.  A copy will be available in the office of the Edgar County Farm Bureau.   The goal is to get this publication in the hands of consumers so that they might frequent these roadside markets and community farmers markets.  Prairie Bounty information.

The USDOT has finalized fees and rules for the 2010 Unified Carrier Registration (UCR).  Yesterday’s Federal Register included the final rule for 2010 UCR.  Within a week, those carriers who participated in UCR in 2009 and those who have registered for a USDOT number in 2010, will be receiving an application from the Illinois Commerce Commission for the 2010 UCR.  Click here to see the document given out by the Illinois Commerce Commission.

Untilled Fields This Spring is an interesting article that was written and has some interesting questions and answers.  Late planting, cool summertime temperatures, and a wet October together made the 2009 harvest one of the latest on record. About 50% of the Illinois corn crop remained to be harvested in mid-November. Many producers harvested in December, January, and even February, and some fields are yet to be harvested in early March. Remarkably, most are still standing quite well, and the moisture is finally down below 30%. While we hope that "field storage" doesn't become normal, it has worked better this year than it will in most years. Here are some questions and answers about soil conditions, tillage, and crop residue as we head into the spring of 2010:Click this link to be taken to the rest of the article  Untilled Fields.
